I can barely believe it's here. A book that I wrote! I found eighty thousand-ish words to pay tribute to my parents, to write a love letter to America and what it stands for, and to jot down some of the experiences of growing up bicultural. How does a boat refugee who came to this country as a baby become a network journalist and work for the venerated Today Show and NBC Nightly News in one generation? Through grit, luck and a why not attitude. We go through a lot in 300 pages from childhood to career to family dynamics as our success rose and fell. It’s funny (I think), full of heart (always) and hopefully a lot like what you expect from me: a good story with smart takeaways.

Boat Baby is available now for pre-order and it will be a delightful surprise when you get it in April! Pre-orders are everything in the book world and I’ll sign the first 300 copies. Makes a great gift for the refugee/immigrant/Asian/mom/journalist/graduate/or any reader in your life.
